To kick start my efforts of buying everyday items on Amazon, I used a portion of my first $20 from Swagbucks redemptions in 2013, to buy myself a healthy breakfast item. With the turn of the new year, not only have I resolved to save money by creating more money, but also to live a healthier lifestyle. I rarely eat breakfast during the weekday and usually end up gorging ruthless amounts of food for lunch.

Sunday, I began counting my calories. I had no breakfast and McDonald’s for lunch. A McChicken, a large fry (bad idea to begin with) and a HI-C Orange Drink cost me over 1,500 calories. That is my recommended daily intake to get in shape. Clearly, I needed to make some changes.

I rarely use Amazon for grocery items, but rather for things I want instead of need, so today I found Pure Bar Organic Fruit & Nut Bars, while looking for healthy meal options. The variety pack is $19.99, but after a special offer ($4.00 Off), It would only be $15.99, which is $1.33/bar.

Then I noticed other varieties were available.  Cherry Cashew or Wild Blueberry are only $16.79, but after the $4.00 off are only $12.79, making each bar $1.07/each.  The lowest price I found on the web was around $1.80 per bar +, so even if you go for the variety pack with the $4.00 off, you still save.

Smart Food Selects Feta Herb Hummus Popped Chips

I received FREE Smartfood Selects products from BzzAgent in exchange for my honest opinion. #gotitFree.

I had never heard of Smartfood Selects before joining this BzzCampaign.  If you’re not familiar with BzzAgent be sure to check them out on the web or read my post about BzzAgent here.

The Smartfood Selects Feta Herb Hummus Popped Chips came in a 0.8 oz. bag.  They boast a measly 110 calories, 0.5 grams of Saturated Fat, 170mg of Sodium and 1g of sugar.

Smart Food Selects Feta Herb Hummus Popped Chips

As you can see from the picture above, they are crispy chips and are packed with flavor such as Black Pepper, Rosemary and Basil along with Cheddar and Feta Cheese.

Each bite felt light and airy, but at the same time crispy.  I could definitely taste the herbs, as well as the feta.  I’m literally salivating for more as I write this.  I want to lick my screen!!

These crispy chips could easily replace my need for vending machine snacks any day.  Goodness knows I’m in LOVE with White Cheddar Popcorn and Funyons.  With the Smartfood Selects, I feel like I’m eating a gourmet chip!

I love the fact that they contain no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.  The ingredients list is not filled with product names I cannot pronounce.  Plus, they are Kosher, contain ZERO MSG and ZERO grams of trans fat.

The Popped Chips come in other flavors such as Garlic Tomato Basil, Cinnamon Brown Sugar and Italian Herb.  I’d love to try ALL of these flavors.  Based on the texture of the chip, I feel that all of these flavors would work VERY well with my palate.

Best of all, they’re available at your local retailers such as Kroger, CVS, Safeway, Walgreens, Harris Teeter and more.  Find a store near you here.

The full sized puffed corn I received comes in a re-sealable bag, which is SUPER awesome! I’ll be reviewing that later, so stay tuned!

Overall, I will buy these OVER and OVER again and I can’t wait to try other flavors and varieties.  Generally, I tend to stick with products that offer a cost-savings as well as health benefits, but regardless of price I’d definitely shell out more money for these.  Even my 13-year old son liked them.

Chicken Salad – A Recipe and Review

When Split Chicken Breast goes on sale for $0.99/lb, I stock up.  In the past, my recipe “collection” was fairly non-existent, limited to Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup.

I’ve begun broadening my horizons and though I’m still in the early stages, I’ve learned to make a few new things.

From chicken tacos, enchiladas and quesadillas to BBQ pulled chicken and more, I use the Crockpot to make the most succulent chicken I’ve ever had!

Here’s a great recipe I adapted from a Paleo recipe courtesy of The Meanest Momma.  It’s pretty much a replica so I owe her all the credit, but I used regular mayo.

{Review} Paleo-Approved Classic Chicken Salad

I was drawn to this recipe due to the fact that I’m trying to find creative ways to use the Split Chicken Breasts.

Not only that, but I’m trying to eat healthier as well as stop spending money on eating out for lunch.  I’m ALWAYS in a hurry.

This recipe was very easy to follow, with only the cooking being the chicken.  It felt so good to taste the yummy goodness of fresh fruits and veggies.

I did not know what Paleo mayo was or else I could have used that, but if you’ve got Mayo fans in your house you know they accept no substitutes.

The coolest part is that while shopping for my ingredients, I came across a new AWESOME product called Chef’s Envy and

I won $100 from a local radio station during my out of the ordinary WEEKDAY grocery shopping trip.

I’ll be reviewing the Chef’s Envy within the next few days! It’s a food slicer and it’s the Cat’s Meow!

I brought the chicken salad to work the following day and it was such a hit that it didn’t last near as long as expected.  I counted and 12 sandwiches were made.

It lasted two days.  That’s how good it was!!

So, a big thanks to The Meanest Momma! On a side note, if you are following the Paleo diet, the Paleo friendly version is not-intended to be eaten with bread on a sandwich.

You might serve it over a bed of romaine lettuce.  This just goes to show that even if you’re not ready to dive straight into Paleo, the recipes are great and can be adapted.
