Real Kids Shades

Sun protection is an important factor for children and adults alike around the clock.  It’s important that we teach our children to start early, but protecting their eyes from the harmful UVA/UVB rays of the sun.  Finding an affordable pair of sunglasses  styles that children will love is a difficult combination.  I can’t tell you how many pairs of generic sunglasses we’ve picked up from drugstores, discount department stores and even grocery stores without even checking for UVA/UVB protection.

My son JUST turned 13 and he is a thin one, like his father, so based on the size specifications for ages 7-12 on the Real Kids Shades website, I decided to give them a try! Real Kids Shades offers shades from birth to age 12.  They’ve been around since 2002.  I wish I had found them earlier, or even that they offered a line for tweens and teens that are just as affordable.  Fortunately, upon receiving the Blade and Glide styles they fit my son just right.

They came in a nice, thick, plastic reusable pouch with a latch so they can be taken with your child every where they go! Upon opening them, I could feel how durable both the frame and lenses are.  The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree when it comes to the need for durable eye wear.

After reading the tag, I learned that Real Kids Shades boast the following features:

  • UV400 Category-3 Lenses
  • Polycarbonate Lenses (shatterproof and impact resistant)
  • Polycarbonate or Flexible Rubber Frames
  • 100% UV Protection (FDA-Approved)
  • Lead-free
  • No BPAs
  • No Phthalates
Naturally, my son will not let me take pictures with them on him, so keep reading to see pics I snapped when we received the product.

Those features alone wowed me, but as a parent, I also love the wrap-around style to protect from peripheral light, the removable Neoprene strap and the fact that they are waterproof and rust-proof.  To back their product, Real Kids shades offers a 100% replacement warranty!

Check them out!

Below is the Blade style in Black for ages 7-12 along with the removable Neoprene Strap.

Below is the Glide style in Blue for ages 7-12, with the Neoprene Strap attached.

They’re definitely stylish enough for my son.  He likes the Blade in Black the best.  Best of all they offer features and protection that I can’t find at a reasonable price.  Real Kids Shades retail from $15-$20 and are sold in the U.S. and 19 countries around the world.  To locate a Real Kids Shades retailer, click here.

My son may quickly outgrow these sunglasses, but if you’re a parent of a child who is beginning to inherit your vision you’ll be pleased to know that some RKS frames “have been tested by board-certified opticians and found effective for fitting both high-minus and high-plus powers of prescription lenses.”

Overall, I’d give them a 5/5! I just wish I had found them sooner!

I really like these glasses. if they are as toddler proof as they say they are this would be perfect. my son loves to wear sunglasses and knowing its FDA approved and will help protect his eyes im all for it. I hope he doesn’t mind the strap though
