Lose It: My Weight Loss Journey – The Beginning

What is Lose It?

I was first introduced to Lose It! via the iPhone app by a former colleague.  Lose It also has a website and Android App.  Lose It is a free weight loss, meal plan and exercise tracking web and mobile application.

It allows you to create a program, set goals and establish a daily calorie budget.  Select from weight maintenance to up to 2 lbs per week and Lose It will recommend a daily calorie budget based on your current weight, goal weight, height, gender and birth date.

From there you can enter foods and exercises through a searchable database of existing items or you can add your own and save frequently used foods and exercises for later use.  The food database features general foods as well as restaurant specific foods.

Daily and weekly reports are available, including a breakdown of nutrients.  Reports can be sent via email on a daily or weekly basis to track your progress.

You can connect with friends for additional support and motivation.  There are also community forums on the web for additional support.

Lose It! is currently supported in the US and Canada due to the food databases.

My Weight Loss Journey

I haven't been using Lose It lately.  In fact the last time I logged my weight, meals and exercises was in January 2011.  A fellow blogger has encouraged me to get back on the weight loss wagon as I've returned to nearing my ultimate high weight of 150 lbs.

Some might not think that's a lot, I gave birth to my son 13 years ago at 142 lbs.  A year after his birth, I averaged around 110 lbs.  Lose It will help me to achieve my initial goal of 125 lbs. by instant notifications to my phone to track my meals throughout the day.

I've entered a starting weight of 145 with a goal weight of 125 lbs at 1-1/2 lbs per week.  With a daily calorie budget of 1,214 my target weight loss date is September 16, 2012.  I will likely head out for a mini-vacation around Labor Day, just before my target weight loss date.

When I used Lose It before, I really liked the simplicity of the app and the website, with my results syncing.  Plus, with the app, it's always there at my finger tips.  The website's functionality is just as great! To me it's the best free weight loss tool available.

So, here's to Lose It and my reentry into the weight loss journey.  I will continue sharing my progress throughout the coming weeks and months.
