At work, we love sharing food with each other.

Since I am fortunate to have the opportunity to review many food items, I seem to bring the most to the table, until the other day.  I brought in [NAMELESS PRODUCT] as my family had not taken advantage of this seemingly delightful snack.

Both my coworkers and I tried it only to find that not only was it super delicious, but it had also been RECALLED! Oh, no! When I found out how much they liked [NAMELESS PRODUCT], I decided to head to the product’s website to remind myself of what other flavors I had tried and the first piece of information on the website was that the product had been voluntarily recalled due to other recalls within the industry.

Stop eating the “XXXXXXX“, I exclaimed as I picked up an incoming phone call.

Only, my coworkers thought I was exclaiming in jest due to their rapid consumption of the product.

Fortunately, we all had consumed very little and made it to work the next day.

This is a story we will all never forget and I will be taunted for eternally!

Nicholas has grown out of his jeans.  He has been wearing a size 14.  I was afraid that was the end of the line for children’s clothing, but fortunately Old Navy still has a size 16 (and 18). Phew! I think the moment where we venture into “adult” sizes, is when I will be “affected”.  We got great deals through ShopAtHome.Com.

This weekend, I HOPE to be able to accomplish the following:

I plan to wake up early, get a lil’ pretty with my new Avon (shop my Avon store using the link below) products, hit a few garage sales and/or try to find a new washer, come back home and tidy up a bit and do some laundry. By then the boys will be up and just in time to try out my tasty crockpot chicken wings. Then we’ll head to the movies (if we can all AGREE on a movie) and come back home for some family fun with the Kinect (barring any football interruptions). And that’s JUST SATURDAY!!

What’s everyone got on their slate?

Seven Snippets: August 3, 2012

— 1 —

First and foremost, after all the lemons and abundance of lemonade, the best news I’ve got to share all week is that my boyfriend finally got a new job!

More money and full-time! We will be saving and cutting spending diligently so we can buy a house in April 2013.

— 2 —

My car will be paid off in February 2013 or sooner! It’s a 2006 Kia Spectra EX with only 47,000 miles on it so I plan to have it for a long time!

— 3 —

I’ve decided that in addition to all of the other stuff I’m doing, I’m going to pursue a degree in Programming to make my vast knowledge of I.T./Web related things official.  If you’re not already aware, I can pretty much learn anything you put on my plate.  With that, and only a high school diploma, at the ripe age of 32, I’ve taught myself many a technology related task from Microsoft Access to Photoshop, SQL Databases, beginner web development and graphics.  I just need a few more arms, kinda like an octopus.

— 4 —

My 33rd birthday is right around the corner.  I feel like I’ve been 32 for about 4 years for some reason.

— 5 —

I have a few days off coming up on 8/30 – 9/3.  This will be a much needed break.

— 6 —

My son finally ventured in to *new* territory and made himself some blueberry muffins the other day.  I’m trying to teach him independence, whereas he thinks, I’m trying to torture him. Yet, they were super delicious!

— 7 —

I have thoughts on music this week.

I heard this song on the radio this week and the lyrics stuck out to me.

As long as you love me…

We could be starving, we could be homeless, we could be broke…

Eh, not so much.  Really? A multi-million dolar artist sings about being broke.  It doesn’t sit well with me.

Yes, I agree that LOVE overcomes many things, but to be quite honest, despite my feelings that money is the root of all evil, unfortunately money is necessary to survive.  Finances (or lack thereof) have always been known to lead to tumultuous times in marriages or relationships.

Seven Snippets: August 3, 2012

— 1 —

I’m currently working outside of the home full-time, blogging what seems like full-time and selling Avon.  I’m stressed out beyond belief.

— 2 —

I discarded all of my old coupons to start over.  I went from an ultra-packed 21 pocket file to one week of coupon inserts.

I planned out my coupon shopping last week for three stores.  Aldi (no coupons required), Kroger & Publix.  I ended up getting about 90% of the items at Aldi with NO coupons.  I only went to Kroger to grab the split chicken breasts on sale for $0.99/lb and a few fresh herbs and spices that Aldi did not have as well as a few “free” with coupon brand name items.

— 3 —

To add to my plate, I discussed involvement in my Dad’s cleaning company in regards to purchasing and procurement of supplies, contracts, etc.

I love this type of work, so I will place it before some other things I do.

— 4 —

We got an Xbox Kinect (pre-owned) from GameStop.

I bought UFC Personal Trainer (pre-owned) and we got Fruit Ninja!

I’ve been loving it and the time spent with my son!

— 5 —

Nicholas starts 7th grade on Monday.  This is one area where parenting has been challenging for me.  Especially with the way that certain subject areas are taught, like math.  The methods I use to try to explain things to my son are “wrong” or not the way his teacher explained it.  Trying to convince a teenager of these things is like oil & water.

“Yes, your mother knows what she’s talking about”….though there are some things that just befuddle me.

— 6 —

Sometimes it just seems like the whole world is crashing down upon me.  It brings a new definition to “Ain’t No Mountain”…..

No matter what obstacles I face, I always seem to overcome them with perseverance, but when a dozen or so things happen at once you wonder what you’ve done to piss off the world.  I feel like my life is best described by a bad country song right now, but “I Will Survive”.

— 7 —

Cheers to a new week!

Seven Snippets: July 27, 2012

It’s been almost a month since I last posted my Seven Snippets.  I sure have missed it! Seven Snippets is a weekly wrap up post where I share bits and pieces of the week that didn’t quite make their own post and wrap up some of things I have posted.  Posts typically go up on Fridays if you’d like to join! Seven Snippets is hosted by Bringing the Sunshine!

— 2 —

It’s been a tumultuous month where finances are concerned.  I’ve been playing hot potato with the bills, but I’ve finally rebounded…just in time for back to school shopping and automobile tags.  With that, I’ll be shaving off some unnecessary services and tomorrow I’m racking up on the coupons.  .

I will not pay full price for groceries! Even after shopping at Aldi, I found myself cringing at the amount I paid for shredded cheese, knowing that I can get it for 50% less if I use a coupon when it’s on sale.  I will be sharing my coupon successes.  A good trip to the grocery store for extras looks a little bit like this:  I got most of it for free.

In addition, I will be posting some frugal tips & tricks on a regular basis.

— 3 —

Work has been EXTREMELY stressful as we are growing by leaps and bounds.  Fortunately, I have a great group of colleagues locally and across the country that help the day go by.  I truly LOVE working in the industry I am in, but it has it’s days of madness.  I don’t know if I could live without the madness!

— 4 —

Dare I even mention the “floor closet”…I hung up a bunch of clothes and then I ran out of hangers.

This weekend, I will be weeding out those garments that Jessica Simpson wouldn’t be caught dead in!

I also moved my belongings out of storage (finally).  I was basically paying to be lazy.  Well, now it’s all in my garage.  You don’t even want to know what that looks like.  I decided, I will begin preparing to have a garage sale within the next few weeks.

I’m thinking I’m in need of FlyLady and a review of the Garage Sale Rover app for iPhone might be in order!

— 5 —

My blog has been “cleaned” up thanks to feedback from one lovely lady, Robin! I’m still working on improvements and would love to hear your feedback!

— 6 —

Back to school is coming soon! My son will be in 7th grade.  My how time flies! He scored quite well on the end of the year test! I’m so proud.

He’s been wearing uniforms since the beginning of Middle School.  That definitely eases some of the school shopping pain!

A few years ago, I volunteered for a field trip and loved it! I got a day off of work to go to the zoo and spend time with my son and his classmates.  I hope to involve myself again this year!

— 7 —

Another kudos to the newly turned teenager.  He’s turning over a new leaf, it seems!  He’s taking charge and reminding me to step away from the blog and stop procrastinating, especially as it relates to everyone’s favorite, household chores!

Seven Snippets: June 29, 2012

— 1 —

I missed Seven Snippets on 6/22 and I'm posting late for 6/29.  I'm actually writing this on 7/2/2012 (backdating my post because I'm OCD-ish).  I really LOVE Seven Snippets and the bloggers involved.  I don't want to miss another one or post late, though you can post at any time during the week.  Posts typically go up on Fridays if you'd like to join! Wit that, this week will be a recap of the past two weeks!

— 2 —

My Dad aka Desert Pro posted his first guest post last month on 6/17 titled Improving Your SEO in Layman's Terms.  I hope to weasel another post or two out of him this month on very different topics.  He is one awesome Dad with a ton of knowledge! P.S.  MommaSayWhat's (my mother) posts can be found here.  Bloggers: I highly recommend "pitching your parents".

— 3 —

I reviewed my first batch of office products on behalf of Shoplet.  I love office supplies! Check it out here! The next batch is already on the way! Whether you're a parent of school-aged child, a student, operate a home-based business or even just for your personal finances, you will find these reviews useful!

— 4 —

Week 2 of 'This is Not Jessica Simpson's Closet: Week 1' was skipped.  I'm a procrastinator beyond belief.  What can I say? I will post an update this week..  The goal is to get every article of clothing hung up.  Perhaps I might share a few articles of shame.  Get ready by picking out one item in your closet that you don't know why you still have or would never really wear.

The "other" Jessica (aka me) has been wrapped up with PR appearances blog posts, home life, the work outside of the home job and Avon. The "closet" looks worse right now and I have had no motivation to do anything with it.  The posts will be retitled "Part 1", "Part 2", etc.  I hope to do something with it on Wednesday, July 4th, Independence Day.  It's not your typical idea of Independence, but don't worry, I'll still have fun!

— 5 —

I've been cleaning up my blog.  A huge part of blogging relates to email.  Learn about my Email H-E-L-L and how I fixed it with Baydin's Email Game.  I also participated in The Biannual Blogathon Bash and got a lot accomplished.  I met a lot of bloggers who reside in Georgia and would love it if y'all would link up here.

— 6 —

Nagging.  What I'm called when I have expectations that I deem to be simple.

— 7 —

Finally, I witnessed a MIRACLE this weekend.  I was cleaning the kitchen and I asked for my son to bring his dishes (that he's not supposed to have in his room – Pick Your Battles – A Lesson from Momma Say What - Coming soon!).  So, he brings his dishes and a bag full of Coca-Cola bottles with Coke Rewards caps.  I ask him to help me take off the caps so I can rinse the bottles to recycle and I get the typical teen response, "I can't, I'm busy".  I'm not in the mood, so I just let him go.  Suddenly, I hear a strange noise coming from his bedroom.  I run into his bedroom to ensure he's okay.  It's the VACUUM; normally a recognizable sound from any other room but his.  SO PROUD! I've gone into his room about 7 times since yesterday complimenting his "new look".
