What is Matcha?

The first thought in your mind is likely, what is matcha? Matcha is green tea, finely ground and in a powder format.  The tea leaves that produce matcha are grown in the shade, which result in a darker green color and more amino acids.

As a blogger, I have the opportunity to review products at no cost in exchange for an honest review.  Tomoson is a site filled with opportunities for established bloggers.  I hadn’t visited them in a while.  Conveniently, when I logged in after being away, I noticed that Kiss Me Organics was offering a complimentary bag of their USDA ORGANIC Culinary Grade Matcha to qualified bloggers and was intrigued.  I applied to review the product and was accepted.

I began to research matcha as I knew nothing of it at the point I applied for the review except what was listed on the bag. I was very impressed by the lists of benefits found around the web.

Matcha has been around for centuries and has recently made a resurgence and spread to popular culture.  Matcha is most widely known for it’s ability to boost metabolism and increase focus.  It is found in various health food products such as cereal or energy bars.

My boss did not feel the effects, but he did not dislike the taste.  He added 1/2 tsp. to his tea.  I accidentally added a whole teaspoon in my tea.  I did notice it affected the flavor, but I felt energized without the jittery feeling that I’m left with after drinking 2-3 cups per coffee in the morning (which I’ve quit by the way).

The flavor of matcha is noticeable, so it’s important to understand what flavors compliment it, whether you add matcha to your favorite tea or smoothie and even breakfast lunch or dinner.  The recipe guide is extremely helpful in achieving the perfect balance of flavor.
