{Review} Beanitos Back-To-School Healthy Snack

I’m always on the hunt for healthy on-the-go snacks, especially with a 13-year old in the house.  Since my son turned 13, finding a balance of snacks that are healthy has been a struggle. Not to mention the fact that he seems to become pickier and pickier each day.  Foods that he used to eat in abundance are now being dubbed as “stale” in terms of popularity with the kiddo.

Unlike me at that age, he is not at a point where he can whip up something on the stove or in the oven.  That may be due to mom’s paranoia or perhaps my coddling over the years.  We’re working on that, but even still there comes a time when you just need a quick snack aside from “JUNK” food.

When I received the Beanitos, my son had arrived home before me, brought the package in and opened it as I’ve trained him to do as my blogger assistant! Since this was our first shipment of food to review in quite some time, I was able to instruct him on how to proceed by taking inventory and reading any enclosed instructions.  He was delighted to be the first to try them out!

He chose the Beanitos Chipotle BBQ flavor and loved them. Upon my arrival at home, I also loved this flavor.

We also received Black Bean Chips, Pinto Bean & Flax Chips and Pinto Bean & Flax Chips with a Cheddar Flavor.

All of the flavors are good, though I prefer the flavored Cheddar Cheese & Chipotle BBQ over the others.  The best part is that they are corn-free, gluten-free, high-fiber, high in protein and Omega as well as Low Glycemic Certified.  I found this to be a great benefit and brought them to work for my colleagues to test a few flavors out.  They actually LOVED them (4 out of 4 – 2 guys and 2 gals). Some commented that they tend to gear on the salty-side, but attributed this to the fact that they contain sea salt. We also noted that the calories are a reasonable for the amount of chips it takes to satisfy you. I actually shared a bag with two coworkers and felt like I had eaten a whole snack bag of regular potato chips.

Read more about the nutritional benefits here.

I feel bad when I buy my son “regular” chips, but like I said, I have been struggling to find healthy alternatives that are good for on-the-go families, especially as it relates to after-school snacks.  I firmly believe that my son would at least allow me to “mix-in” Beanitos into his normal snack regimen and I also enjoy them myself.  It definitely provides a sense of relief to the “I’M HUNGRY” mantra that takes place almost daily when I arrive home from work.  In addition, I feel that replacing my trips to the vending machine with Beanitos at work will allow me to focus on nutrition versus  the “sludge” that I commonly call a snack.  As learned by the book, Ultraprevention, sludge is over-consumption and under-nutrition.  Beanitos definitely take a hit on reducing “sludge”.

Overall, I really love Beanitos snacks and look forward to replacing them with other non-healthy snacks for my child and myself.

Find out where to buy them here or order online! At less than $1.00 per bag, I’d much rather fill myself with goodness than a salty, oily, high in sodium commercial brand bag of chips from the vending machine.

Let me know what you think in the comments below! Stay tuned for a giveaway from Sublime Media Connection!

I received the above products through Sublime Media Connection in exchange for an honest review. In no way was I asked to give a positive review.

Vacation Starts Now!

As of 5 p.m. E.D.T. I’m officially on vacation, returning to work on Tuesday morning 9/4.

To some, this may not seemingly qualify as a vacation, but here’s what I’ve got in the works.  Of course, some things just might fall by the wayside, but I see this as an opportunity to free myself from tasks that I’ve been unable to complete due to unforeseen circumstances.  At the end of the day, while my days may be filled with “work” on my blog and “chores”around the house, I will enter the rest of the coming weeks with a fresh start.

  • Recovering lost posts on my blog from July 2012
  • Recovering design touch-ups on my blog
  • Planning/Scheduling for the upcoming weeks/months for my blog and Sublime Media Connection
  • Upgrading the Sublime Media Connection forums (for members only)
  • Laundering clothes that have been in storage and donating them
  • Cleaning out the garage of material possessions I no longer need in hopes to have a garage sale
  • Turning my 3rd bedroom into an office
  • Making some freezer meals
  • Blog posts galore including completing lingering reviews due to a brief onset of carpal tunnel
  • Facebook games
  • Movies, TV
  • Cleaning out my email and unsubscribing to stuff I don’t need

All of these tasks can be completed at my leisure in my pajamas!

{Review} Starlooks Starbox – August 2012

Starlooks Starbox is a monthly subscription product, offering 3-4 FULL-SIZED products each month for ONLY $15.  That’s a minimum of $35 worth of product for just $15.

I received the August 2012 Starbox for free in exchange for my honest review thanks to Sublime Media Connection.

In my August 2012 Starlooks Starbox, the products featured were Le Sang Bleu by Lauren Bradley.

I received a potted eyeliner, an eyeliner brush and a lip gloss.  In my many years of experience with makeup, at first I was taken aback by the eyeliner and brush.  Despite my hesitation, I found the eyeliner and brush both to be super easy.  In my past experience, I was always inclined towards thin or thick eyeliner pencils.  Potted eyeliners or liquid eyeliners always intimidated me.

When I used the potted eyeliner and brush from Starlooks Starbox, I discovered a whole new world.  To me, it is much easier than a traditional eyeliner.  It was creamy and smooth.

I also had the opportunity to try experience a lip gloss in Pink Petal Rose.  It wasn’t as sticky as your every day lip gloss.  The color was the perfect pink for both day and night looks.

Watch my video review!

I was never really a fan of subscription boxes, but the Starlooks Starbox has changed my opinion of subscription boxes! I now have a brush that I would have never had before, along with two other products for just $15.

Overall, I am very pleased with the price, value and quality of the products.  The brush, the eye liner and lip gloss are worth five times what I would have paid, in my opinion.
